Welcome to our Little Free Library

How does this library work? This Little Free Library offers a way to share good things to read.

Take a book. If you see something you would like to read, take it, return it, or pass it on to a friend.

Traveling or just need a break? We welcome you to look through our selection and find something to read along the way.

The Little Free Library story: In 2009 in Hudson, Wisconsin, Todd Bol built a model of a one room school house as a tribute to his mother, a former school teacher who loved reading. He filled it with books and put it on a post in his front yard, offering free books to anyone who passed by, and the Little Free Library was “born”.

Our story: Realizing a perfect opportunity to pass along our love of reading, an informal partnership was formed with the Friends of the Modoc County Library, the Rotary Club of Alturas, and the Niles Coffee Company. We hope you enjoy this opportunity to relax with a good book – and please pass it on.
